The freedom of expression in Republic of Moldova

Republic of Moldova it’s a one state in under development. The democracy it’s still in incipient phase, after 20 years when Moldova won the independence. At regards freedom of expression, the country begins to recover from collapse.

I do not speak in terms of official statistics or of international experts. I try to reflect this things through the eyes of all citizens and not least, from my point of view.  We all know  about  tragic events of April 7, 2009, in our country. About youth revolt has been wrote several pages in newspapers, has been said so much words, and I don’t know if their ecole will disappear.  We lived like heroes from the novel “1984” by George Orwel. The social networks were blocked, the mobile telephony was also collapsed, everywhere reigned terror an the streets of Chisinau. Again, these things are not some reports of some official’s data.  I mean, the reality comes directly from the action’s epicenter.  I witnessed how in the street, two boys suddenly were detained by police. Unfortunately, I was in trolleybus. I didn’t see what happened after.

Now I am little ironic, but  in this period if u wanted to dress up something red, you were regarded like a communist’s party supporter!

Returning to those reported earlier, I admit, I have been at those protests. I had right to express my beliefs and my opinion on the election results. I could see hundreds of young people came to say freely what they think. Some of them , unfortunately paid with their lives for their beliefs…

My colleagues who stayed in hostels, said that on April 7, 2009, were afraid to sleep at night, because someone might take revenge on them. Many young people form villages or other cities were returning from their journey to Chisinau, just because  they wanted to express their beliefs. Now, in 2011 the situation has changed. We have so much TV channels, magazines, new portals. People can write free comments, can chose what to watch and what to say. Before 2009, persons from this country  felt  that fear it’s your shadow! An interesting case: I was with my colleague at an internship. Her mission   it was to do a poll about how many chances has  one political person to become president. The survey was anonymous. A frightened lady said : “I will not answer at this question, because I work in Communist Party and I want not  have problems”. We explained  that it’s just a anonymous survey, which will be not broadcast on any TV Channel or radio station. She didn’t trust us.   It’s was hard. But  I just want to say that mass-media ,communication and Internet has been changed the life in this country.
